5.0 out of 5 stars don’t give up!
looks fantastic and makes excellent coffee. I do admit it has been a labour of love getting it right. different coffee beans take different grind times. I had several failed attempts and through a fair amount of coffee beans before getting it right. you do have to purge the hot water and steam to get the temprature through. I have increased the Temperature in settings as it was not hot enough for my taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for the money
I used to have Sage Duo Temp Pro and Smart Grinder Pro, but after 5 years of usage it started to wear out. The Barista Pro seems to be a nice upgrade. There are a couple cons:

    – grinder has a lot of retention, but I wouldn’t expect anything better at this price point
    – compared to Barista Express, it doesn’t have the pressure clock

    Pro:
    – intuitive
    – great value for the money
    – customisable – brew temp, brew time
    – great looking
    – coffee is really tasty

I was a little worried that Black Truffle variant I have got will be made of some kind of plastic (like the cheap bean to cup machines), but all parts that should have, are made out of metal. Haven’t seen any scratches so far, but had the machine only for a week now.

Definitely 5/5 and I would buy it again – there is nothing better on the market at this price point for an espresso machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pricey but you get what you pay for
In short it’s great. Not only looks the part, which is important at this price point, but it makes great coffee. I busted through a bag of beans trying to dial it in properly, and although that was a chore, it wasn’t hard. The setup guide is good. All in all the best machine I’ve had by some margin, beating my old Gaggia hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great if it doesn’t break down
    Bought this in May 2024
It then recently developed a problem with the steam wand and producing steam.
This culminated in it now not working at all, despite total cleaning.
Amazon will not arrange for an engineer to visit and repair it.
I am expected to arrange and pay a 3rd Party to come and collect it after I package it and print a return label.
Amazon say they then will cover that cost.
I’ve told them I am not doing this and quite possibly try to sell it on EBay and let someone else come and collect it.
I believe that maybe it was an early manufactured machine, now proven unreliable.
However when working properly this is a great machine and I am about to order a new one with ‘fingers crossed’ and hope it is reliable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee machine
After spending a long time researching machines I picked the Sage Barista Pro.

The machine is beautifully made and comes with high quality accessories.

I must admit I needed a few hours YouTube research to learn how to use it but after a couple of days but after that never looked back.

Top tip set your grind size to 8 and adjust from there as the default 15 is way too course and results in watery coffee.

Other top tip is you must run water only through the porta filter each time machine is switched on to prime or heat up the thermajet. Then it’s ready to use. Same for steam wand.

I did end up purchasing a dosing attachment for the top of the porta filter to stop coffee grounds spillages and a tamping mat but other then that the machine has everything you need

1.0 out of 5 stars READ THE 1 STAR REVIEWS!!! Don’t believe the hype – this machine is dreadful, cheapo rubbish.
I grew up using espresso machines and have over 40 years experience with them. This machine makes indescribably bad coffee.

This joke of a machine has wasted 2kg of the finest fresh locally roasted coffee… coffee which I have years of experience using and pulling exceptional espresso doubles on using a proper machine.

I have not just used the inbuilt grinder (which is basically a toy) – The inbuilt grinder was tested using measured bean doses from 17g to 21.5g in .1g steps. Purging between each test-grind. I did NOT rely on the pathetic supplied tamper… For consistency, I used a properly set calibrated tamper.

I also made sure the machine was reset to factory defaults before using it at all.

Regardless of setting, this machine produces bitter, undrinkable muck.

At NO TIME has it ever produced a correct dose of espresso. I even use a tare-ed scale to ENSURE the correct ratio of bean weight to final espresso weight.

This machine NEVER gets the correct shot, usually producing more than 3 times the correct amount, with disgusting results EVERY TIME.

For comparison, I compared the output to my 20 year-old Gaggia, grinding the coffee for both machines using a super accurate Anfim commercial grinder.

The old Gaggia still makes a great espresso with the same beans… The Sage Barista Pro has still never produced anything drinkable… I have thrown away EVERY cup of espresso that ever came out of it. NO EXAGGERATION, NOT ONE CUP OF DRINKABLE ESPRESSO HAS EVER BEEN PRODUCED BY THIS £699.00 PILE OF RUBBISH.

There is NO WAY to tell if it is set to the correct brew temp, and no way to adjust it to any known value!!!

I can make far better shots with a £25 Aeropress, a 20 year old Gaggia Classic. This should give you an Idea of just how useless this machine is.

Needless to say, It is awaiting collection and a full refund from Amazon,

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent upgrade from my (now broken) Barista Express
After 8 years and 10 months of daily use, my Sage Barista Express finally died; which although was a loss, It felt like the perfect excuse to make a change and upgrade. The Express is a great “intro” machine for the price but I wanted to delve a little deeper.

I saw that Sage had recently introduced the Barista Impress which is effectively a Barista Express with a “simpler” tamping tool – replacing a traditional hand-held tamper with a lever system. Over 8 years I think I got quite good at making tasty espresso, and my tamping game seemed OK; so the Impress model was not really offering me anything useful over the Express.

That led me to the Pro.
The benefits below are a mix of what I’d read and what I’ve encountered since using it:

The Thermojet internals heat up in seconds – much quicker from button press to being able to make espresso than with the Express.

The noise – It’s quieter. Everything is quieter. The grinder, the pump, the steaming. Maybe age had a role to play here on my almost-nine year old Express…. But it’s noticeably quieter all round.

The grinder – It’s still a conical burr grinder, but the Pro offers 30 settings vs the 16 on the Express… though I think I am having some issues here (see below)

The steam wand – It looks similar but it has 4 holes vs 1 on the express. Doesn’t sound like much but I’m steaming faster and the foam is much better than I ever achieved on the Express

The LED display – I liked the analogue guage on the Express, but the Pro has “just enough” tech in the form of the display and controls over say an Oracle which (to me) is just too much. The custom menu and timer is really helpful when dialling in new coffee beans.

    Some things I like less:
The coffee hopper – the hopper holds less coffee than my old Express. I can’t get a 225g bag of coffee in the hopper on the Pro and close the lid fully. I could put a full 225g in the bean hopper on my Express. These are interchangeable by they way between the Express and Pro, and it may be the current Express has the same hopper as the Pro.

The water tank – The filter in the tank seems needlessly complex compared to the Express (and more expensive to change).
Also, the water tank will not sit steady on a flat surface (unlike the Express). It’s not a big issue – it’s just if I put it on a worktop and fill with water from a tap, the tank will begin to rotate. That never happened on the Express.
Also, the water tank is a very similar design between the Pro and the Express. It’s the same width and depth, but the tank from the Express sits just slightly higher ( a couple of mm) than the Pro body. It’s a shame they aren’t the same for spares and interchangeability.
I know I’m picking here but it’s interesting to note the differences.

The grinder. Some of this may be lack of familiarity, but I’ve spent a couple of weeks dialling-in the machine with (a lot) of test shots. I am stuck between three grind settings and my experience is varied. I’m generally getting a good to very good shot. It’s just not consistent … even though I believe I am consistent in how I’m making the espresso.

I’m using an IMS basket; and weighing my coffee in (after emptying any retained coffee from the grinder) and the time taken to get the 36g of coffee out.
I’ve no changed the internal grinder setting from the default 6 to 3, because I was down to grind setting 2 or 1 when the machine was delivered; so It had very little real world adjustment. That has in turn moved the grind setting from 1 or 2 to 13/14/15 on the display which gives me much more room for adjustment gor other coffee beans.

With a regular coffee bean I am getting variable results in terms of time taken to get 36g of coffee out from my 18g of beans in. (on my double shot).

I’m using a distribution tool and press as well so I’m left scratching my head a little bit on the reasons why I’m getting such variable extraction times (from 22 seconds to 46 seconds).

The coffee output is generally good to very good, and this is me trying to fine tune what I’m doing and the machine is doing. I’m also worried this may be me trying to convince myself to but a standalone grinder !
On the whole though, I am pleased I went for the Barista Pro over another Barista Express or the Barista Impress. It’s a great machine that you can run very simply (fill the hopper and set the grinder) but also lets you have some very helpful control over the whole process if you want to get in to that level of detail and tuning in search of a “perfect” shot. The grinder is the only thing I’m left thinking I might need to improve upon in the future on an otherwise excellent machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an easy machine to use compared to the Barista express
I like the screen takes the guess work out of setting the machine. It boils quicker and steams quicker than the express by a good margin. The steam wand is easier to clean. Not found any dislikes as yet

3.0 out of 5 stars One year on – still requires patience
I’ve had this machine for one year now. I’ve held off writing a review as I don’t expect to become an expert on pulling a perfect shot after 2 or 3 weeks. However one year on it is still as frustrating as it was at the beginning. If you are prepared to choose one brand of coffee and stick to it you can just about live with this machine. Sure, it will still have days that you get two completely different shots despite pulling them just seconds apart and changing absolutely nothing. However the appeal of this bean to cup machine was the ability to pick up a bag of freshly roasted coffee from a local cafe here and there, try new brands, and that for the most part is impossible. You waste the entire new bag just trying to dial it in, and just when you think you’ve got it, you haven’t. We buy at least 3x bags anytime we try a new one, because god forbid we like it. The positives are good – when you get it right it’s great. The milk steamer after some practice gives a really silky, smooth, aerated milk. And if you choose one of the large, albeit not so freshly roasted, companies that sell in large volume you can just about get a good coffee each morning, but it’s not great and that wasn’t the initial appeal for moving from a pods machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far too temperamental for me
I really didn’t want to have to write this review, I wanted to love this thing.

I did weeks of research learning how to use it, spent ages dialling in the beans, and just when you think you’ve found the “sweet spot” and you’re going to start getting nice, consistent shots every time, it decides to start spitting out horrible coffee again?

I understand that espresso machines require a bit of patience – and believe me, I was patient with it. I’d get the odd decent shot out of it and I’d think to myself “ah, that’s it, nailed it,” then the next shot I pulled the yield would be way off and the shot would be coming out too slow. Then I’d change one variable at a time trying to get the nice shot back and no matter what I did (adjusting the grind, the dose, making sure I’m tamping correctly and getting a nice evenly distributed puck etc.) I’d keep getting horrible sour shots with a really poor yield.

This thing is just far too temperamental for me. There’s a stupid amount of variables to take into account every time, and it’s just a massive pain to go through, all for the sake of a cup of coffee. I get much better coffee out of my £40 moka pot than I do this £700 paperweight.

It’s just not worth the hassle in my eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don’t buy from togaluuk
