Wonderful little device
I had been wanting a kindle for a little while, I had the app on my phone but finally decided to get one. Best decision ever, saves money and space since I won’t be buying as many physical books. It’s also great because of the “stuff your kindle days” as you can purchase loads of kindle books for free. I’ve got over 200 free books from the stuff your kindle days that happen 4 times a year. The kindle basic is the perfect size for me to pop it in my back and take with me.

Wish I had of Bought sooner
Love love love this product. I was always a book gal until this and find myself reading more now after a month of using it. great battery life and amazing controls such as dark settings to read at night time. dont feel as if Im reading a screen at all.However, it is slippery to hold with the matte cover on it. That being said, investing in a cover to protect against drops and breakage is not a big deal. 10/10

Very small and lightweight
Having owned a previous Kindle from 2011 I was reluctant to change. So glad I did. For a start my new Kindle is far smaller and lighter so easy to transport for reading anywhere. I love the new touch screen. It was easy to swap from old to new and all my books are still available. I like the simple controls and could probably do a lot more with my new Kindle but happy to just use it for reading.

Very easy to hold and to use. Just tap the screen left or right to flip back or forward. Screen is clear and the font can be adjusted larger or smaller. Battery lasts ok and it charges using a standard usb-c connector

The back-light is wonderful
Replacement for previous Kindle, which was becoming twitchy and requiring frequent reboots. Opted for cheaper model with adverts and backlight. Adverts only occur when Kindle is off and are not intrusive. Back-light is wonderful. My sight is starting to fail and I struggle to read in anything less than bright light and using a large font. With Back-light I can read anywhere, regardless of lighting conditions and I have reduced the font size significantly. My Kindle library loaded quickly and with no problems. The battery life is better than my previous Kindle even with the backlight on at about half brightness. I wish I’d bought this years ago.

Had a Kindle a few years back and really struggled with it – a few years on and the touchscreen, clarity and ease of use are vastly improved. Very, very happy that I tried again. Plenty of options to adjust text size, spacing and layout; built in dictionary is so useful, with no need to leave the page. Right happy with a result that I read more with less eye-strain.

Basic in name only – great Kindle option
amazon tells me this is my 6th Kindle, although I can’t remember having that many. I had two kindle keyboards with the physical keypad and page turn buttons, and latterly a 2012 Kindle Paperwhite which seemed to go on for ever. Eventually the battery was starting to have some charging glitches and discharging incosistently, so I knew it was time to make a change.In looking for a replacement, I decided that:1) While waterproofing would be nice, I had managed without it so far (none of my Kindles have had this feature, and I haven’t lost one to water damage yet.2) I liked the small form factor of my 6″ kindle screen, rather than a bigger unit.Therefore I decided the Kindle basic would suit me best rather than the newest 6.8″ paperwhite. With an amazon deal and trade in on my two old Kindles I got it for a very reasonable price.I was impressed with the build quality of this device. It does not have a soft back but I almost always use a case to protect the body and screen, so this doesn’t really matter to me. The body feels sturdy and does not bend or flex.The immediate thing to note is that my last kindle had 212dpi, and this has 300dpi. I can actually see quite a lot of difference in the screen rendering, which surprised me. The backlight is also very even, and can go from off to very bright, so good for any conditions. While the Paperwhite has more flexibility for night time light adjustment, I find the kindle basic ‘dark mode’ works well enough for me.I also like that the kindle basic is actually slightly smaller and lighter than my old kindle, and a much smaller form factor than the paperwhite. I like to be able to put it in a bag or pocket, so this small size really works much better for me.The kindle basic has good hardware. The page turning is rapid and responsive. I wish you could adjust the sensitivity however, as it’s easy to accidentally turn the page, but this is similar on all the kindles I’ve tried. Zooming and rendering of pictures is definately faster than my old paperwhite.I have not as yet tried any of the bluetooth or audiobook features supported by the kindle. I may update this review when I try it. If I do, I will be very glad of the massive 16GB of memory, which is a massive amount of storage for ebooks.Perhaps the best feature though is the USB-C port. This allows for very fast charging (my old kindle took hours to charge). I believe the battery in the basic is only 1040mAh compared with the 1700mAh on the newest paperwhite, and the basic battery is rated to last 6 weeks rather than the paperwhite’s 10 weeks, but I’m impressed with battery life so far.Overall I’m really happy with my kindle purchase. It’s worth noting as well that they can be ordered set to your account and are ready to go with minimal fuss. Kindles often go on sale with Amazon for Black Friday or just at random throughout the year, so if you see them reduced they really are a great buy and a lovely way to read, and this kindle, despite the basic moniker, is actually brilliantly specced and executed, and is a great option to consider.

Easy to set up !! I have also taken the 3 month offer of free download and happy to pay monthly after that.The charger cable provided was fine with my charger plug from my old Kindle and powered up very quickly.It is worth buying a cover for protection as I suspect because the Kindle is so light to hold you may accidently drop it. The white page will make reading so much easier, so now looking forward to hours of good books to read.

As the title says I wasn’t sure at first, I spoke to a friend and he lent me his Kindle, which was an older version but that was all I needed.The size is about the same, the speed for turning pages was a bit slow but nothing too terrible.I was worried about the kind of lighting on the screen, but I tested it both outdoors and indoors, with lots of light and with none at all.After about 2 weeks of using it I was convinced and bought my own.That it’s black and white can be a bit annoying if you want to read comics, but with the app that syncs with your phone it’s enough.Highly recommended Kindle.

I like to read, and after years of humping hard back and volume type tomes around a spark in the brain suggested I invest in a kindle and load up my taste in books in a small portable machine. So I bought one, the small 6″ version seemed the most that would need and so it proved right, I ordered a book that I promised myself to read and set to register the Kindle in my name and start reading, firstly Amazon gets you to jump through several frustrating hoops to get registered, passwords, mobile number checks what’s your grandma’s mother’s maiden name you get the drift, then the order process for a book is a doddle so now I’m reading the book, in peace, good price now that Amazon has found my complete family history I can relax on my Lanzarote beach.

I always said ‘I would get a kindle, but books are nicer to hold’ plus you can show people your book collection to impress them (which you might do once in your life and someone actually give a ****) and its nicer to flick the pages. The idea of it is great, the reality is you have nowhere to store the books, holding the pages open is annoying, books are heavy, it’s difficult to read books standing up and books don’t fit in your pockets (granted you do need big pockets to fit a Kindle inside). Anyway, the higlighting feature is great, saves you the hassle of highlighting and postmarking, and the fact you can look us words by simply holding your finger down on the word is insaaaane, much better than having to look up from. your book, open your phone and get distracted instantly, never actually managing to look up the word you were intending to and then losing where you were in the book only to find the place again and once again look up the word.
